It is important that we uphold the principles and laws of refugee protection - the asylum protection pledge is therefore very useful, but I am very disappointed that none of the politicians have made any attempt to tell the truth about asylum or refugees, or sought to open up a discussion about the reasons why people move from their home countries, and therefore what needs to be done. I recommend reading the statement 'The trouble with immigration' http://www.peaceandprogress.org/ttwi.pdf
and its accompanying questions to inform the lobbying of parliamentary candidates.
